DD Blitz!!

DD Blitz!!

Postby KevinT » Tue Jun 24, 2014 10:14 am

We were astonished to find the whole central portion of Downton Disney boarded off with major construction stretching from the Lego World shop right through to Planet Hollywood. Visitors are unable to walk through this area and can only skirt round it using a new boardwalk around the edge of the lake. Parking is also at a premium due to the construction of a new multi storey car park. At busy times temporary car parks on the other side of the main road are used. Another part of the main car park is cordoned off as a "valet only" park further restricting.

I'm sure it will look fabulous when completed but in the meantime there is a lot less of it to browse and the whole feel of the place is lost in a crush of people. Must be a pain for the small businesses and street entertainers there who have lost their regular places. One large area is going to be designated to fast food trucks specializing in "World Cuisine"....a few of which are already dotted around the site in temporary places.

The new wooden lakeside boardwalk will (I think) be a permanent feature and will eventually provide an alternative way of walking along the lake from one end of DD to the other.

We rarely go beyond the LEGO shop - never found anything interesting down there! Parking is a pain at the moment, but we've so far always made it into the first lot as you approach from Crossroads, just ignore the 'lot full' signs, but there is some driving up and down or stalking involved!!

it sounds like it will be nice when it's completed... but it must be hard until then...

I'm sure it will be excellent when it's completed Laurel. I just thought it was currently very disappointing for those families for whom a trip to WDW is maybe a once in a lifetime event. About a third of DD cordoned off and boarded up must leave them with a sad impression of what we know is normally a magical experience :(
